I have a four year old guinea pig whose friend passed away about six months ago. My guinea pig didn't really care that her friend was gone, she was eating and drinking normally and she didn't gain or lose any weight. She didn't get depressed or anything like that. But lately i just don't know what to do.
I haven't gotten a new guinea pig because i didn't want to be in a never ending cycle of just getting guinea pigs every time another one died. I would love to get like two baby guinea pigs who are the same age to keep her company but i don't have room for three pigs.
I've been looking if shelters had some adult guinea pigs to keep her company but there aren't any. I have also checked some websites where you can sell or buy guinea pigs but they are all so far away from where i live that i can't just go pick them up.
I've also been thinking about selling my guinea pig but i have the same problem with the transportation part and also i love my piggie so much that i would feel terrible if i had to give her up.
I get the feeling like my piggie is just bored 'cause she doesn't have anything to play with. When i had two piggies they didn't really communicate with each other almost at all, they just "growled" at each other if they came across in the cage. I feel like they were both trying to dominate one another.
When i put her down on the floor she just usually goes and sits in a corner not because she's shy, because she's always been a brave guinea pig who wants me to pick her up from the cage and isn't scared of humans. She likes "lap time" she just relaxes and sleeps on my lap. I try to keep her company at least two hours a day.
I don't have any toys for her 'cause i've never seen any at the pet shops i've gone.
So to conclude my piggie hasn't lost her appetite, hasn't lost or gained any weight, seems like the same she's always been, still communicates by squeaking when she wants food or anything really, but she does sleep most of the time 'cause she doesn't really have anything else to do.
Could my guinea pig be depressed, lonely or is she just bored?
Also should i get toys for my guinea pig and if so what kind of toys should they be?
I live in finland so are there any pet shops online that sell "guinea pig toys"?
