Mites & can't get to Vet

I have 3 guinea pigs, and my eldest, Alex seems to have dry patches of skin that seem to be almost scab-like? Looking on the forum it's likely that this is mites, but I'm not totally sure and want to check with a vet before trying to treat him. Unfortunately, my family and I are currently in self isolation and so I can't possibly get him to the vets for at least week (by which point I cannot be certain they'll still be open due to changing government policy). What can I do to look after my boys?
 
Please still call your vet to discuss with them. They may be able to do a video consultation or may ask you to email some photos over to assist. It would be the best way to get advice on what action to take right now
 
I should say when you call make it clear you are in self isolation so that they do not encourage you to attend
 
I agree with @Lady Kelly you should phone the vets and ask for advice- they may be able to prescribe something based on photos or a video consultation during these circumstances
 
Thankyou, that's a really good idea! I'll call tomorrow as they aren't open on Sundays. Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

It's best not to do anything until you have spoken to the vet. There is no point treating on spec as you don't know exactly what you are dealing with

Please do not treat on spec as it is going to make any diagnosis much more difficult when you basically wipe the crime scene.
What you do is take a picture today and then again tomorrow so your vet can see the development; that may halpe them with the diagnosis.

If they want to see your piggy, could you google locally for a mutual support group to see if somebody could come and take your piggy to the vet for an examination for you? Most vets now have their clients waiting in the parking and pick up the pets from there in order to minimise transmission risk.
