Hi! New Guinea pig owner here 💛 The cage I got for for them yesterday meets the requirements for space but is so poorly/cheaply made and unstable. It’s bound to fall apart anytime soon. I wanna order a Kavee c&c cage with a stand for my piggies! I wanna make sure they have plenty of space for zoomies and just to live in general while I’m at work majority of the day. Are Kavee c&c cages a pretty decent size for guineas? How secure and stable are they? Would anyone recommend them? Feel free to drop any pictures you have of them & honest reviews! I wanna provide the best life and care possible for them.

Hi and welcome

Kavee are new to the market and are currently making a big push in terms of advertising but their product is comparable to those from Guinea Pig Cages (another US company), which have been around longer.

Many of our members have C&C cages of various sizes and individual design. I started in 2009 with them long before there were any official providers and you actually had to order the grids as a shoe rack kit and the coroplast either from singmaking shops or trying to source them online!
Here is our members' C&C cage gallery: Member Gallery: C&C cages/homemade cages

You want to go for the largest possible cage you can afford. We recommend a minimum of 2x4 grid for two sows and 2x5 (ideally 2x6 or 3x4 grids) for boars.
If your boys have not been character matched, then being able to split the cage when the boys reach teenage to have two single 2x3 cages with a grid divider will come in very helpful, whether that is for a temporary separation during a hormone spike or - if you are unlucky - for a permanent split and next door companionship.

You can find our minimal cage size guide, C&C cage guide info plus lots of other helpful practical information for New Owners for a good start in this link here, which you may want to bookmark for quick access to information - especially if your hours fall into our UK night: Comprehensive Owners' Practical and Supportive Information Collection
